Sea Ducks

You will need a California Hunting License, California duck validation, HIP, and Federal Duck Stamp. Sea Ducks are hunted from a boat. Warm gloves, hat and face mask make the ride more comfortable. Wear warm waterproof layers that are neutral or camouflage. Bring a shotgun with non lead ammunition. #4 to #2 steel shot sizes work well. 3” or 3 1/2” shells are recommended. Bring 3 to 4 boxes of shells for each hunt. This is a salt water hunt and cleaning your gun after the hunt is highly recommended to prevent rust or damage. The hunt will be a morning hunt and usually done by noon. Don’t forget to pack a snack.

Diver Ducks

Diver ducks are generally hunted from a bank with rising brackish waters. Waders or tall waterproof boots are recommended. Everything else that is recommended for sea ducks is also recommended for Divers.
